I am looking for ideas on best designs for getting kayaks down 20+ feet vertical of large rock rip rap in an area with big (20 foot) tides. The Alaska Marine Highway is a great way to transport kayaks, but at many terminals the most dangerous part of your trip is getting your boat and gear to/from the water on this rip rap.
Does anyone have pictures, samples of what works (or doesn't), ideas hatched while tackling similar obstacles?
I would like to approach the state engineers with some concepts in hand to get them on board so I can seek funding and ultimately get safe kayak launches in place.
