Kayak/canoe/big wall toilet (washable/reusable)

All parts (only 5) were obtained at a local RV sales/service retailer for under $20.00.

Kayaker-Porta-potty-web.gif (182123 bytes)1. 3" PVC tube cut to any length
- longer for extended trips or group use
- shorter for individual use (each kayaker/canoeist may want to carry their own to avoid dealing with a group
)
- to fit storage location such as behind kayak seat
2. End cap adapter (2)
3. End cap
4. End cap with hose attachment threads for cleaning

Glue the two end cap adapters to any length tube (use PVC cement).

Attach end caps by means of the bayonet hooks

Construction takes about 3 minutes. No tools are needed to assemble this model.

Make "deposit" on a large coffee filter (10"-12") or large paper towel and place in the tube along with toilet paper. Replace end cap.

Due to the use of coffee filters and the small dimensions of the "Torpedo" toilet, this system cannot be cleaned in the SCAT Machine. It is set up to be cleaned at an RV dump station.. To clean the toilet at a dump station, attach a water hose to the end cap with hose threads. Remove the opposite end cap and place the tube upright over the dump station receiving hole. Turn on water to flush unit. Both end caps can be removed for more thorough cleaning if necessary.

Keep a wet paddle and a clean river.

I used this toilet on my 4 week trip to Lake Powell. It worked well, keeping the smell contained, even after baking in the hot sun on the back deck of my kayak for multiple days To be absolutely sure of odor free conditions, you can use Bloo or some other type of RV/camper toilet additive. The baked packages were stiff and impossible to get down the small hole on the outside dump station, but the toilets could take them. It would be adviseable to add water on the day that you knew you would be emptying.

I used flushable toilet wipes spread out on the ground. Aim soon improves, making a centered load easy to wrap up and place in the open tube end. Also there is no problem disposing contents at any facility, unlike use with other options such as coffee filters.

I found little use for the end cap with hose attachment. The dump stations around Lake Powell and most of the RV dumps I have been to do not have screw on hoses. I think a plain End cap on both ends might be better.
