05/20/2004 07:23 PM Hank McComas - This launch site will save a lot of miles if you are trying to get out deep into Great White Heron backcountry. Located at the end of the road on the north end of Big Torch Key, the road dead ends with wide shoulders at a small pool reached by 100 feet of trail over the uneven and slippery limestone. It could be difficult exiting or entering the pool at low tide. The tide will come up the path quite a ways at high tide. The water approach to the short narrow mangrove tunnel into the pool is very shallow or may even go dry at extreme tides. There was a white rag tied to a mangrove marking the entrance. It may or may not survive.
